CELEBRATING

STORIES OF
STRENGTH

Presented By:

Friday, May 21 | 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. | Via Livestream

Featuring Tarana Burke

On Friday, May 21st, Willow will pay tribute to Stories of Strength, our public art collaboration with artist Sarah C. Rutherford. Like the mural, this virtual celebration will serve to illustrate and amplify the strength, resilience, and courage of those we serve in the Greater Rochester region. Every dollar raised from this special night directly supports The Willow Fund.

Hear from Tarana Burke as she shares her own Story of Strength and insights from You Are Your Best Thing: Vulnerability, Shame Resilience, and the Black Experience, releasing on April 27. Norma Holland will moderate this exclusive LIVE episode of Purple Table Talks addressing the isolation of violence, social conflict and trauma brought to the front of national discourse, and how radical healing can support meaningful change in our community.

About Keynote Speaker

Tarana Burke

The simple yet courageous ‘me too.’ movement has emerged as a rallying cry for people everywhere who have survived sexual assault and sexual harassment – and Tarana Burke’s powerful, poignant story as creator of what is now an international movement that supports survivors will move, uplift, and inspire you.

On stage, she provides words of empowerment that lift up marginalized voices, enables survivors across all races, genders, or classes to know that they are not alone, and creates a place for comfort and healing to those who have experienced trauma.

Willow’s public art collaboration with a mission to heal. Standing at six stories tall and inspired by the real stories of survivors of domestic violence, artist Sarah C. Rutherford interviewed and interwove their experiences into every detail. The mural was installed in October 2020 and is located on the Times Square Building in the heart of downtown Rochester.
