Willow Center families have survived trauma and abuse, and are just beginning their journey to a safe and empowered life. Willow Center hosts two holiday giving programs: the Purple Box Campaign, and the Adopt-a-Family Program.
The spirit of generosity gives all of us at Willow Center the most valuable gift of all: hope.
Purple Box Campaign
The Purple Box Campaign is a holiday toy drive for children at Willow Center, to help them feel a sense of normalcy and hope during the holiday season. Willow Center serves over 7,000 survivors each year in Monroe County, including 300 children with their non-abusive parent/guardian staying in the emergency shelter.
The purple boxes will be placed in law enforcement facilities throughout the community to include: Rochester, Brighton, Irondequoit, Gates, Greece, and Ogden Police Departments, as well as at the University of Rochester’s Department of Public Safety.
Individuals, companies, and families ‘adopt’ a family served by Willow in the past year, and receive a Wish List filled out by the survivor. Willow families are invited to register for the Holiday Program through our Court Advocacy Program, our Emergency Shelter and our Community Programs. Family sizes range from 2 to 6, including mom or dad, and the children. Donors can request specific family sizes and children’s ages and we do our best to accommodate. Often, the gifts received through the Adopt-a -Family program are the only holiday gifts received by the family – Willow staff work with donors to determine family size and gift options to ensure a happy holiday for all.
